THE CELEBRATION OF EUCHARIST
The church is not the building, It is not the pews and it is not the stained glass windows. The church is the people that worship in the buildings, who kneels in the pews and who are reminded of their religious heritage by the beautiful stained glass windows.
Every Sunday the parishioners of Blessed Sacrament catholic church in Oak Cliff come together to worship god. The collection baskets may show proof of the poverty that strikes our parish, but the sounds and sights of our celebration prove that we are spiritually rich. As the choir sings the entrance hymn and the people rise, so too do their hearts.
The parish who many refer to as the "poor parish" or the parish in front of the 7=eleven is the mansion where the parishioners celebrate marriage, baptize their children and bury their dead.
Unfortunately, sometimes we forget why we are at church. We need to belong and Blessed Sacrament has proved to be our home. It has been the home of parishioners and visitor for 90 years. That faith that has grown from March 25, 1901 to today is still alive in the hearts of those who call it home. The love that we have for our faith is self evident. They will know are Christians by our love "by our love".
That love that keeps us going despite the problems, the poverty, the needs of the community and the confusions that we may encounter is the center of that celebration we call mass. We celebrate the Sacraments with devotion to that faith that does not let us down.
