RELIGIOUS EDUCATION & THE FOUNDATION OF FAITH

On March 30, 1985, under direction of father Rick Tullius, the "new" our lady of good counsel was dedicated. Bishop Thomas Tschoepe concelebrated mass with father Edmundo Paredes, parochial vicar. The celebration was more than a dedication of building, It was the dedication of a community that saw the need for a center of religious education program and earlier to that a school building.

Both of these buildings had structural problems which caused safety hazards to the children who were taught in them and to the groups who had their weekly meetings in them. The concern led to the construction of what know Now to be "our lady of good counsel education center" or what parishioners so lovingly refer to as the "prep center". Religious education classes are taught here in the same tradition as is the original two story school building in 1902.

The lay groups which participate within the parish also hold weekly meetings in the center. But no all is without hard work and sacrifice. Along with the new building came a price. Yes, as we all know, everything has a price. The parish borrowed money from the diocese for the construction of the new building and the deficit has grown. But, the commitment of the parish to its educational values has also grown. The education of its children has been able to overcome the financial obstacles and will continue to grow in the catholic tradition started so long ago.
